Lumbini Lions Advances to Qualifier 2, Set to Face Biratnagar Kings

Lumbini Lions advanced to Qualifier 2 of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2025 after defeating Kathmandu Gorkhas by four wickets in the eliminator match at TU International Cricket Ground on Wednesday.

Chasing a 112-run target, Lumbini reached 113/6 in 17.4 overs. D’Arcy Short top-scored with 33 off 34 balls, while Sundeep Jora added 23 off 23 balls. Captain Rohit Paudel and Niroshan Dickwella contributed 18 and 14 runs respectively.

For Kathmandu, Santosh Yadav claimed two wickets, while Karan KC, Sunny Patel, Shahab Alam and Rashid Khan took one wicket each.

Earlier, Kathmandu Gorkhas were bowled out for 111 runs in 19.1 overs after opting to bat first. Yadav was also their top scorer with 23 off 17 balls, while John Simpson and Mohammad Aadil Alam made 18 runs each. Bhim Sharki scored 14 off 16 balls.

Sher Malla starred with the ball for Lumbini, taking 3 wickets for 22 runs in his four overs—a performance that earned him the player-of-the-match award. Captain Paudel also picked up 3 wickets, while Ruben Trumpelmann claimed 2.

With Tuesday’s win, Lumbini will face Biratnagar Kings in Qualifier 2 at the same venue on Thursday. Biratnagar lost to Sudurpaschim Kings by 77 runs in Qualifier 1.

Sudurpaschim have secured a place in the final and will play the winner of Thursday’s match. The final is scheduled for Saturday at TU Cricket Ground.-- RSS
