The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 0.81 percent, or 21.48 points, on Sunday, December 7, closing at 2,609.69. This marks the index’s fifth straight day of decline. On the last trading day of the previous week, Wednesday, December 3, the index had dropped 0.51 percent, following declines of 0.99 percent on Sunday, 0.16 percent on Monday, and 0.02 percent on Tuesday.
A total of 10,718,615 shares were traded across 89,731 transactions on Sunday, generating a turnover of Rs. 5.33 billion, higher than last Wednesday’s Rs. 5.23 billion, when 10,873,372 shares were exchanged in 67,485 transactions.
All key sub-indices ended lower, with the Sensitive Index down 0.60 percent, the Float Index declining 0.87 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index falling 0.74 percent.
Of the traded securities, 204 declined, 46 gained and eight remained unchanged.
Swastik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SWASTIK) and Shreenagar Agritech Industries Limited (SAIL) hit their upper circuit limit, emerging as the day’s top gainers, while Jhapa Energy Limited (JHAPA) rose 9.99 percent.
On the losing side, Bungal Hydro Limited (BUNGAL) posted the steepest decline, down 8.51 percent.
Sagar Distillery Limited (SAGAR) led the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 436.955 million, followed by Ngadi Group Power Ltd. (NGPL) and Bandipur Cable Car and Tourism Limited (BANDIPUR).
All 13 sectoral indices ended in the red. The hydropower index recorded the steepest fall of 1.22 percent, followed by the trading index at 1.21 percent, hotels and tourism at 1.20 percent, microfinance at 1.04 percent, and finance at 1 percent.
Total market capitalization slipped to Rs 4,381.73 billion from Rs 4,417.80 billion last Wednesday.
