Despite economic slowdown, Nepal’s insurance sector recorded notable growth in the first four months of the current fiscal year (FY 2025/26).

According to Nepal Insurance Authority, both life and non-life insurance businesses expanded in the review period compared to the same period last year.

Data published by the Nepal Insurance Authority show that the business of life insurance companies increased by 16.51 percent, while non-life insurers recorded a 12.42 percent growth as of mid-November in the current FY.

Life insurance companies collected insurance premiums worth Rs 62.21 billion during the period, up from Rs 53.39 billion in the corresponding months of the previous fiscal year. The authority said both new premiums and renewal of or insurance policies contributed to this growth.

However, the number of active life insurance policies declined. While life insurers had 13.3 million active policies as of mid-November last year, the figure dropped to 11.4 million policies during the same period this fiscal year.

Non-life insurance companies issued 903,098 policies and collected total premiums of Rs 15.84 billion in the first four months of the current fiscal year. In the same period last year, they had issued 897,235 policies and earned Rs 14.10 billion in premiums.
