Cipla Limited has announced launch of multi-city awareness initiatives in Nepal for World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day 2025. Under the theme “Short of breath… It could be COPD”, Cipla said it has launched on-ground programs to raise awareness, promote timely screening and support guideline-based management among healthcare professionals.

In Kathmandu, Cipla’s initiatives included screening over 600 individuals at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital using its COPD Risk Score Calculator, and interactive device demonstrations for over patients and paramedics at HAMS Hospital training them on the correct use of pMDI, DPI and Nebulizers.

Cipla also screened 150 traffic police personnels, who are continuously exposed to highly polluted environments, in Birgunj. In addition, Cipla said that Bir Hospital would host a departmental session on COPD management, complemented by live device demonstrations.

"Beyond this, the outreach continues through Breathefree Camps and Continuing Medical Education (CME) workshops for doctors aimed at sharing the latest updates aligned with COPD management guidelines through the month of December,” read the statement issued by the pharmaceutical company. It also aims to screen over 5,000 people and engage more than 1,500 doctors and paramedics across Nepal through programs such as the COPD Triad, case-based workshops and targeted device demonstration training – each designed to strengthen early diagnosis, clinical management, and patient education in COPD care.

Commenting on the initiative, Swapn Malpani, CEO – EMEU, Cipla said that respiratory care was fundamental to the work  it does and remains guided by the purpose of ‘Caring for Life.’
