The CPN-UML on Tuesday, November 25, filed its application for party registration for the upcoming general elections and moved the Supreme Court demanding the reinstatement of the dissolved House of Representatives.
The party submitted its registration documents for the March 5, 2026 elections at the Election Commission. Its Central Election Department Chief Niraj Acharya and several leaders handed over the application, reported the state-owned RSS news agency.
According to EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, a total of 67 political parties have applied for registration so far. The UML has already registered for the National Assembly election scheduled for January 25, 2025.
The party also filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court seeking to overturn the House dissolution. The petition was filed jointly by Mahesh Bartaula, the Chief Whip of the UML Parliamentary Party in the now-dissolved House, and Whip Sunita Baral.
The writ demands the revocation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s appointment and the annulment of all decisions taken after the dissolution. It argues that Karki’s appointment violates Articles 76 and 132(2) of the Constitution.
