Karnali Yaks secured a dominant victory over Lumbini Lions in the ongoing Nepal Premier League on Saturday, November 22, at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
The Yaks chased down a 157-run target in just 12.2 overs, powered by opener Mark Watt’s explosive century. The Scottish batter smashed 12 sixes and 6 fours, finishing unbeaten on 144 off only 44 deliveries, making light work of the Lumbini attack.
Watt hit Lumbini captain Rohit Paudel for four sixes in the 10th over. This innings marked the first century of the second NPL season.
Karnali’s other opener, Priyank Panchal, fell early in the fourth over after scoring 12 off 10 balls. William Bosisto held firm at the other end, remaining unbeaten on 29 off 20 deliveries as Karnali finished at 161/1.
The win, Karnali’s first in two matches, moves them up to sixth in the points table, while Lumbini remain third. Sher Malla claimed the only wicket for the Lions.
Batting first, Lumbini posted 156/8 in their 20 overs, with wickets tumbling at regular intervals. Captain Paudel top-scored with 49 off 43 balls, while late cameos from JJ Smit (23 off 14) and Ruben Trumpelmann (29 off 14) pushed the Lions to a modest total.
Karnali’s Nandan Yadav claimed two wickets, while Sompal Kami, Gulshan Jha, Bipin Sharma, Yubaraj Khatri, and Mark Watt shared one wicket apiece.
Later in the day, Biratnagar Kings are set to face Kathmandu Gorkhas.
