Defending champions Janakpur Bolts have posted a target of 131 runs for Kathmandu Gorkhas in the opening match of the second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
Invited to bat first after losing the toss, the Bolts made a steady start, reaching 33 without loss in four overs. However, a sudden collapse derailed their early momentum as they lost four wickets for just 13 runs.
Opener Lahiru Milantha managed only 7 off 12 balls, while skipper and birthday boy Anil Shah fell for a duck, taking the score from 33/0 to 34/2 in the space of five deliveries. Soon after, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton and Sanjay Krishnamurthi departed cheaply, scoring 2 runs each, leaving the defending champions in trouble at 46/4 in 8.3 overs.
Despite wickets falling around him, opener Aasif Sheikh anchored the innings with a well-crafted 54 off 41 balls, hitting one six and six fours. Mayan Yadav added an unbeaten 34 off 29, while Lahiru Samarakoon chipped in with 22 off 21, helping the Bolts reach 130/6 at the end of their 20 overs.
For the Gorkhas, Milind Kumar was the standout performer, taking 3 wickets for 15 in his four overs. Skipper Karan KC, Shahab Alam, and Santosh Yadav picked up a wicket each.
