NEPSE Edges Up 0.38%

Only two sectoral indices end in negative territory

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index rose 0.38 percent on Monday, November 17, gaining 9.78 points to close at 2,550.36. It had slipped 0.20 percent on Sunday, the first trading day of the week.

Market activity strengthened as 8.89 million shares worth Rs 3.94 billion exchanged hands through 61,635 transactions compared to 7.95 million shares traded across 47,176 transactions, generating a turnover of Rs 3.89 billion the previous day.

All major sub-indices closed higher on Monday. The Sensitive Index increased 0.32 percent, the Float Index climbed 0.41 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index was up 0.32 percent.

Of the total securities traded, 167 gained, 76 declined and 13 remained unchanged.

Only two sectoral indices ended in negative territory. The Non-Life Insurance Index inched down 0.09 percent, while the Others Index dropped 0.49 percent. The Development Bank Index led the day’s gains with a 1.50 percent rise, followed by the Hotels and Tourism Index at 1.07 percent. The remaining sectoral indices each gained below 1 percent.

Bandipur Cablecar and Tourism Limited (BANDIPUR) was the top gainer, hitting the upper circuit, while Sagar Distillery Limited (SAGAR), Bungal Hydro Limited (BUNGAL) and Jhapa Energy Limited (JHAPA) all surged 9.99 percent.

Bhugol Energy Development Company Limited (BEDC) was the biggest loser of the day, sliding 9.99 percent.

Sahas Urja Limited (SAHAS) topped the turnover chart with Rs 180.03 million, followed by NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN) at Rs 165.94 million and Shivam Cements Ltd (SHIVM) at Rs 163.05 million.

Overall market capitalization increased to Rs 4,282.11 billion from Rs 4,265.68 billion the previous day.
