The Sushila Karki-led interim government has defied the Supreme Court’s interim order that barred it from implementing the decision to recall ambassadors from 11 countries.

Despite the court’s directive, the government sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) instructing it to bring back the ambassadors and assign them to work at the ministry, according to the state-owned RSS news agency.

MoFA spokesperson Lok Bahadur Paudel Chhetri told RSS that the ministry received the letter on Monday, November 3, directing it to summon the recalled envoys.

The Council of Ministers had earlier decided on October 16 to recall the ambassadors by November 6. However, a writ petition was subsequently filed at the Supreme Court, arguing that the move was unlawful. Following a preliminary hearing, the court on Sunday, November 2, issued an interim order instructing the government not to implement the decision.
