The government has officially declared 45 individuals killed during the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9 as martyrs.
According to Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel, the decision was made during Monday’s Cabinet meeting based on recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs, district administration offices, security agencies, and other concerned bodies.
More than 72 people, including protesters and inmates, were initially listed as martyrs following the violent protests. However, the list was later revised after verification to ensure that only genuine protesters were included.
Minister Kharel said that assessments are still ongoing regarding others who lost their lives during the unrest, and further decisions will be made once the review process is complete.
