NEPSE Slips 0.20 Percent  After Two-Day Surge

After rising for two sessions, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index slipped on Wednesday, October 29, falling 0.20% or 5.17 points to close at 2,566.16.

The benchmark index had climbed 0.20% on Sunday, the first trading day after the Tihar holidays and surged an additional 2.48% on Tuesday. There was no trading on Monday due to the Chhath festival.

The market turned negative on Wednesday, with 159 listed companies declining, 85 advancing, and 6 remaining unchanged. Daily turnover also decreased to Rs 5.45 billion, compared to Rs 4.57 billion on Tuesday and Rs 2.66 billion on Sunday.

Key sub-indices weakened as well: the Sensitive Index dropped 0.34%, the Float Index slipped 0.32%, and the Sensitive Float Index shed 0.30%.

More than 11.5 million shares changed hands through 50,487 transactions, up from over 9.2 million shares traded via 47,094 transactions on Tuesday.

Among the gainers, Khanikhola Hydropower Co. Ltd. (KKHC) hit the upper circuit, closing at Rs 257.40 per share followed by Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (ULBSL) and Manushi Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (MLBSL), which surged 9.98% and 9.91% respectively.

On the losing side, Jyoti Bikash Bank Bond 2087 (JBBD87) fell the most, dropping 5.66% to settle at Rs 1,100 per share.

Among the 13 sectoral indices, only four closed higher. The Hotels & Tourism Index led gains with a 2.15% rise, followed by the Trading Index up by 2%. The Microfinance Index inched up 0.13%, while the Hydropower Index was marginally higher by 0.01%. The Others Index recorded the steepest decline, falling 1.20%.
