A helicopter belonging to Altitude Air skidded and met with an accident while attempting to land in Lobuche of Solukhumbu district on Wednesday morning.
According to Assistant Chief District Officer Surendra Thapa, who also serves as the information officer at the District Administration Office, Solukhumbu, the helicopter had flown to Lobuche to rescue trekkers stranded due to heavy snowfall.
“The helicopter slipped while landing this morning. Fortunately, there were no human casualties,” Thapa said, adding that the pilot has been rescued and flown to Lukla.
Thapa informed that the Lobuche area had been experiencing snowfall since around 3 pm on Tuesday.
Sudip Pyakurel, marketing officer at Altitude Air Pvt Ltd, confirmed that the helicopter slipped while landing at 7:54 am on Wednesday. He said the chopper had been dispatched to evacuate trekkers trapped in snowfall.
“The pilot is safe,” Pyakurel added.
