The state-owned Food Management and Trading Company (FMTC) Limited has decided to operate 13 paddy procurement centers across the country during this harvest season.
A meeting of the company’s regional managers and heads of departments held on Saturday made the decision considering major rice-producing pockets. The company will purchase paddy at the minimum support price set by the government.
According to the company, the procurement centers will be established from Mahendranagar in Sudurpaschim Province to Birtamode in Koshi Province, covering major production zones. The centers will be located in Mahendranagar, Dhangadhi, Rajapur, Nepalgunj, Jumla, Tulsipur, Bhairahawa, Pokhara, Birgunj, Lahan, Janakpur, Biratnagar, and Birtamode.
In addition to these 13 main centers, the company said its provincial offices, branch offices, and sub-branches may set up additional sub-centers in coordination with local governments as needed.
Farmers must complete the company’s farmer registration form before selling their produce. Payments will be made through the Corporate Pay platform, the company stated.
The company further informed that it will procure only paddy that meets its prescribed quality and standards. The quality of paddy will be checked at the procurement centers before purchase. If the company’s existing warehouses cannot accommodate the procured quantity, arrangements will be made in coordination with local governments to manage storage and additional centers.
