Nepal Police on Saturday, October 25, detained 50 individuals from Maitighar Mandala for attempting to stage a demonstration without prior permission from the local administration.

According to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, those taken into custody identified themselves as members of Gen Z United. They were detained for questioning after assembling at the protest site without authorisation.

Police said the group was stopped due to the lack of prior approval and the potential risk of confrontation with other Gen Z groups, which could have posed a security threat. Among those detained, 24 are women and 26 are men.

Madan Karki, one of the leaders of Gen Z United, said the group had sought permission to hold the rally, but the local administration denied the request. Calling the police action “undemocratic,” Karki said the demonstration was intended to promote unity among Gen Z groups.
