The government has spent 18.56 percent of the total budget in the first three months of the current fiscal year (FY 2025/26).
According to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), government expenditure reached Rs 364.58 billion by the end of Ashwin (mid-October), out of the total annual budget of Rs 1,964.11 billion.
Of the total expenditure, current expenditure amounted to Rs 256.80 billion, or 21.75 percent of the annual target. Capital expenditure stood at Rs 19.18 billion, representing only 4.7 percent of the earmarked amount. Under fiscal management, the government spent Rs 88.60 billion to repay loans and interest. The budget expenditure under this heading stood at 23.61 percent of the allocated amount.
During the review period, the government’s revenue collection totaled Rs 253.01 billion, equivalent to 16.51 percent of the annual target of Rs 1,533.04 billion.
Within internal revenue, the government collected Rs 249.05 billion—16.83 percent of the annual target of Rs 1,480 billion. Meanwhile, foreign grant receipts during the three-month period amounted to only Rs 2.72 billion, or 3.76 percent of the annual target of Rs 53.44 billion, the FCGO stated. -- RSS
