NEPSE Ends Lower as Majority of Stocks Decline, Hydropower Index Drags

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index closed 0.76 percent, or 19.43 points, lower Tuesday, October 14, closing at 2,528.16, following a 1.76 percent gain Monday and 3.05 percent drop on Sunday.

Daily turnover too declined to Rs 3.36 billion from Rs 4.97 billion on Monday. Over 7.48 million shares changed hands through 38,827 transactions, compared to 9.90 million shares across 48,836 transactions the previous day.

All major sub-indices ended in negative territory. The Sensitive Index fell 1.03 percent, the Float Index dropped 1.02 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index declined 1.13 percent.

Of the traded companies, 214 declined, 33 advanced and five remained unchanged.

Shuvam Power Limited (SPL) and Grameen Bikas Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (GBLBS) hit their upper circuit limits, emerging as the top gainers of the day. The last traded prices of SPL and GBLBS were Rs 984.60 and Rs 786.50 per share, respectively.

Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SAMAJ) hit the lower circuit limit, closing at Rs 2,315.70 per share.

Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) topped the turnover chart with Rs 320.78 million, followed by Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) with Rs 160.91 million, and CEDB Hydropower Development Company Limited (CHDC) with Rs 126.82 million.

Of the 13 sectoral indices, three ended higher. The Trading Index gained the most, 1.48 percent, followed by Others at 0.79 percent and Mutual Fund at 0.06 percent. The Hydropower Index suffered the steepest decline, 1.71 percent.

Total market capitalisation fell to Rs 4,226.42 billion from Rs 4,258.92 billion Monday.
