Amid growing complaints of fraudulent phone calls and online scams targeting bank customers, the Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) has clarified that it has not sought any personal or confidential information from its clients through phone calls, emails, or social media.

The bank expressed serious concern over reports that individuals posing as bank representatives have been contacting customers with fake offers and deceptive schemes to extract sensitive details, the state-run national news agency RSS reported.

“No bank employee or authorized representative has made phone calls, sent emails, or used social media or other communication networks to ask for ATM PINs, mobile banking or e-banking OTPs, personal email credentials, passwords, or any other confidential information,” RSS reported citing a statement issued by RBB on Thursday.

RBB Deputy Executive Officer Pawan Regmi urged customers not to respond to or entertain any such fraudulent communication under any circumstances, stressing that the bank would never request such information outside its secure channels.

The clarification follows a series of warnings from the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police earlier this year, which had cautioned the public against responding to suspicious calls, messages, or emails from unknown sources. The Bureau had reported a surge in scams where individuals were deceived by fake emails and phone calls claiming to be from officials of Nepal Police or the Cyber Bureau itself.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak Raj Awasthi, the Bureau’s spokesperson, had earlier urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to their nearest police office or directly through the Bureau’s official website or email. “Responding to suspicious calls or emails can lead to serious consequences, including financial losses,” SP Awasthi had warned.

The Cyber Bureau continues to advise citizens to verify the authenticity of communications claiming to be from banks or government institutions and to immediately report any fraudulent attempts.
