The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined further on Wednesday, October 8, falling 1.74% (45.36 points) to close at 2,559.59.
This follows a 2.19% decline on Tuesday, the first trading day after the Dashain holidays. On the last trading day before the holidays, the benchmark index had risen by 0.43%.
On Wednesday, 18 companies advanced, 232 declined, and one remained unchanged. Over 13.74 million shares were traded across 63,509 transactions.
All major indices closed lower. The Sensitive Index fell by 1.79%, the Float Index by 1.90%, and the Sensitive Float Index by 1.96%.
Market turnover, however, increased to Rs 5.76 billion from Rs 4.62 billion the previous day.
Shangri-La Development Bank Debenture 2087 (SDBD87) led the gainers, surging 7.09%, while Prabhu Insurance Ltd. (PRIN) recorded the steepest fall, plunging 6.12%.
All sectoral sub-indices ended in negative territory. The Finance Index recorded the sharpest drop of 3.09%, followed by the Hotels and Tourism Index at 3.03%. The Trading Index declined the least by 0.43%.
Total market capitalization decreased to Rs 4,278.96 billion, down from Rs 4,354.80 billion on the previous trading day.
