Nepal welcomed 78,711 foreign visitors in September 2025, marking an 18.3 percent decline compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). In September 2024, the country had recorded 96,302 tourist arrivals.

India remained the largest source market, contributing 15,556 visitors, followed by the United States with 9,679 and Australia with 6,824. China stood fourth with 5,237 visitors, while the United Kingdom sent 4,981.

Other key source markets included Sri Lanka (4,616), Bangladesh (3,015), Germany (2,230), Israel (1,743), and Malaysia (1,673), NTB data showed.

Regionwise, the highest number of tourists came from South Asia (SAARC) at 30.9 percent, followed by Europe (21.1 percent), the Americas (14.6 percent), and other parts of Asia (16 percent). Oceania accounted for 9.3 percent of total arrivals, while the Middle East and Africa contributed 3 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively.

In comparison, August 2025 had seen a higher influx of 88,680 foreign visitors, indicating a month-on-month decrease as well.

Tourism analysts attribute the decline in September arrivals to the Gen G protests in Nepal, which affected the country’s reputation in the international market, as well as the lingering monsoon season. With the end of monsoon in early October, tourism activities are expected to pick up pace as the country enters the peak travel season.
