The Election Commission (EC) has finalised the schedule for the House of Representatives election slated for March 5, 2026.
According to the approved schedule, political parties will register for election purpose between November 17 and 26. However, only those parties that obtain a registration certificate from the Commission by November 16 will be eligible to participate. The law requires parties to be officially registered with the EC before applying for election registration.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 6, the EC announced that the Office of the Election Officer for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system will be established from January 16. The office for the proportional representation (PR) system will start opening earlier, from December 1.
Parties must submit their closed lists of proportional candidates on January 2 and 3.
The election campaign period will run from February 15 to March 2, and voting will take place on March 5 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Commission said it will hold consultations with political parties and stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and cooperation throughout the election process.
