At Least 34 Dead, Four Missing in Ilam Landslides

Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered deadly landslides across Ilam district, claiming at least 34 lives. As of 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, four people remain missing.

Sunita Nepal, Chief District Officer of Ilam, confirmed that the bodies of 11 victims have undergone post‑mortem examination. The District Administration Office said a full assessment of damages is still underway.

By locality, fatalities include: five in Suryodaya Municipality‑1 Manebhanjyang; six in Ilam Municipality‑6 Ghos; four in Sandakpur Rural Municipality; three in Maangsebung Rural Municipality; eight in Deumai Municipality; seven in Maijogmai Rural Municipality; and one in Phakphokthum Rural Municipality.

In addition, two people are missing in Sandakpur Rural Municipality, and one each in Ilam Municipality and Maijogmai Rural Municipality, the Chief District Officer added.
