October 5: Tara Air in association with Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) has commenced the waste management program in Sagarmatha region from October 3 as a part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.
Issuing a press release, Tara Air informed that it has joined hands with SPCC to air lift the garbage from Lukla and hand it over to the Kathmandu Municipality for it’s proper disposal free of cost. SPCC plans to collect approximately 12 tons of garbage annually for disposal. At present SPCC has collected 2.6 tons of garbage from three VDCs including Chaurikharka, Namche and Khumjung of Sagarmatha National Park and Buffer Zone.
According to the statement, Tara Air in the spring of 2008, in co-operation with the SPCC and The Himalaya Club, Lukla, had air lifted approximately 17 tons of empty beer bottles from Lukla for proper disposal in Kathmandu.
