The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several provinces for 12 hours starting 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 4. The department has urged the public to remain alert and take precautionary measures against possible floods, landslides, and other rain-related hazards.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising held a meeting with concerned agencies Saturday afternoon to review the monsoon situation and assess preparedness.

During the discussion, Department Director General Kamal Ram Joshi said that Bagmati, Madhesh, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are likely to experience intense rainfall during this period. He warned that precipitation levels could exceed 200 millimetres between 10:00 p.m. tonight and 2:00 a.m. Sunday, posing high disaster risks, especially in riverine areas.

Joshi advised residents living near rivers and landslide-prone zones to exercise extreme caution and avoid non-essential travel until conditions improve.

According to the department, the ongoing weather pattern remains strongly influenced by active monsoon winds.
