Over 611,000 people leave Kathmandu Valley for Dashain

More than 611,000 people have left Kathmandu Valley for their hometowns to celebrate the Dashain festival over the past nine days.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, a total of 611,657 people departed the Valley from various transit points between Ghatasthapana, the first day of the festival on September 22, and October 1.

On October 1 alone, 58,396 people left the Valley on 13,326 passenger vehicles, said Traffic Police Office spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi.

Since Ghatasthapana, the number of vehicles exiting the Valley has reached 113,415. During the same period, 319,015 people entered the Valley on 77,545 vehicles, according to police records.

Heavy passenger movement has been recorded at major checkpoints including Koteshwor, Kalanki, Balkhu, New Bus Park, and Jagati. -- RSS
