The government has extended the deadline for paying tax dues by one month.

Taxes for the month of Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) was supposed to be paid by September 10 but has been extended by one month, said Madan Dahal, Director General of the Inland Revenue Department.

Under existing law, taxes such as value added tax (VAT), excise duty and other levies must be paid to the respective tax office by the 25th of every month.

Industrialists and business owners had urged Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal for more time, citing disruptions caused by the Gen Z movement and recent political unrest. After meeting private sector representatives earlier on Tuesday, Minister Khanal confirmed the one-month extension. -- RSS
