Ncell Files Police Complaint Over Vandalism, Arson, and Looting with CCTV Evidence

Ncell has lodged a police complaint with the Kathmandu District Police Office on Monday, September 15, regarding the incident of vandalism, arson, and looting at its headquarters, Ncell Icon, in Lainchaur, Kathmandu, on September 9. The company said in a statement that various criminal groups took advantage of the Gen Z-led protests to target the office, causing significant damage to company property.

The complaint calls for the arrest and investigation of the criminals involved, prosecution under the law, recovery of stolen items, and compensation for property damage.

During the unrest, criminals formed groups under the guise of protests, threatened security personnel by locking them together and intimidating them with fire, and then vandalised and set fire to the office, the statement read. “They broke windows at the front of the building to gain entry, destroying and setting fire to equipment used for office and customer services on the ground floor, including the reception and service counters.”

The perpetrators reportedly entered every floor, damaging office equipment, original certificates, permits, land ownership documents, other critical office records, cash, and company safes, either through looting or arson.

The complaint further states that valuable electronic items across all ten floors—including computers, televisions, printers, refrigerators, ovens, and coffee vending machines—were looted. Lockers distributed to employees were broken into, with laptops, personal belongings, and jewellery stolen. Televisions and monitors in meeting halls, fitness equipment on the second floor, and other devices were either burned or stolen. Expensive vehicles owned by the company or rented from third parties were forcibly removed from the compound, set on fire in the courtyard or outside on the street, and destroyed. Vehicles belonging to company employees were also damaged and burned.

Ncell said it has provided police with a detailed inventory of the damages and stolen items. All CCTV footage from the incident was also handed over to support the investigation.

The complaint notes that a formal assessment of the full extent of damage to company property caused by vandalism, arson, and looting is underway, and additional details will be shared with authorities as the investigation progresses.
