President Urges All Sides to Anchor Democracy Through Polls

President Ram Chandra Paudel has appealed to all sides to cooperate in ensuring the success of the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026, stating that the country has now found a peaceful way out of the current difficult and adverse situation.

Issuing a statement Saturday, September 13, he said that the Constitution, parliamentary system, and federal democratic republic have been safeguarded, adding that through the upcoming election, the people have the opportunity to move further along the path of a more advanced democracy.

“I sincerely appeal to everyone to make the best use of this carefully earned opportunity, to win the trust of the people, and to help conduct the election in a disciplined and restrained manner,” the statement read.

The President emphasized that the House of Representatives election to be held within six months should be taken as an opportunity to further strengthen democracy.

His remarks came a day after he dissolved the House of Representatives—the lower house of Nepal’s Federal Parliament—effective 11 PM Friday, and announced fresh elections.

The dissolution followed the recommendation of newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki, who took office the same evening as caretaker premier. Karki, Nepal’s first woman Chief Justice, has been tasked with guiding the country through a volatile transitional phase marked by political uncertainty and youth-led protests that culminated in the ouster of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday.
