The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued its downward trend on Monday, September 8, as the benchmark index dropped 35.99 points, or 1.32%, to close at 2,672.25. This marks the fifth consecutive day of decline, following losses of 0.72% last Tuesday, 0.57% on Wednesday, 0.24% on Thursday, and 0.42% on Sunday.
Despite the slump, market activity strengthened. Turnover surged to Rs 5.23 billion from Rs 4.40 billion in the previous session.
Over 11.71 million shares were traded across 59,704 transactions, up from 11.12 million shares and 58,087 transactions on Sunday.
All major indices posted losses, with the Sensitive Index down 1.11%, the Float Index 1.19%, and the Sensitive Float Index 1.16%.
Of the 251 listed companies traded, only 22 gained while 229 declined.
Him Star Urja Company Limited (HIMSTAR) topped the gainers’ list, soaring 9.99% to close at Rs 430.50 per share. On the other hand, Barahi Hydropower Public Limited (BHPL) suffered the steepest fall, down 5.28% to Rs 671.55 per share.
Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) led the turnover chart with Rs 306.86 million, followed by Union Hydropower Limited (UNHPL) at Rs 240.98 million and Universal Power Company Limited (UPCL) at Rs 232.42 million.
All 13 sectoral sub-indices ended in negative territory, with the Trading Index registering the sharpest decline of 3.31%.
Market capitalization slipped to Rs 4,467.29 billion from Rs 4,527.47 billion in the previous session.
