Dozens were injured during a Gen Z-led anti-corruption and anti-government protest in New Baneshwar, Kathmandu. The injured are receiving treatment at Civil, Everest, and other nearby hospitals.
Some media outlets have reported that a protester died while undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, but New Business Age has not independently verified the claim.
Kantipur Daily reported that Shyam Shrestha, a journalist with Kantipur Television, was shot while filming the protest and is currently receiving treatment at Civil Hospital. It is unclear whether he was hit by a rubber bullet or a live round. Two other journalists were reportedly also struck by bullets.
Nepal Police spokesperson Binod Ghimire said he has not yet received official information on the incidents. Police confirmed that they used water cannons, tear gas, and rubber bullets to control the demonstration in Baneshwar.
Following the clashes, the Kathmandu District Administration imposed a curfew in New Baneshwar and other sensitive areas after protesters breached barricades, clashed with police, and entered the federal parliament premises.
The situation in Baneshwar remains tense, with reports of protesters attempting to set fires within the parliament compound. Meanwhile, youths have taken to the streets in multiple districts across the country, protesting against corruption and government policies.
