NEPSE Gains 0.43% After Two-Day Slump

But, daily turnover continues to shrink

After two consecutive days of losses, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index ended 0.43% or 12.03 points higher Monday, September 1, closing at 2,761.86. The index had dropped 1.12% Sunday and 1.35% last Thursday, following three straight days of gains.

Daily turnover continued to shrink, hovering just above Rs 5.10 billion, down from around Rs 6.06 billion on Sunday and Rs 8.09 billion last Thursday. Trading volume fell to 11.44 million shares across 68,775 transactions, compared to 14.80 million shares in 97,174 transactions the previous day.

The Sensitive Index rose 0.79%, the Float Index 0.62%, and the Sensitive Float Index 0.92%. Among 251 companies traded, 143 advanced, 106 declined, and 2 remained unchanged.

Him Star Urja Company Limited (HIMSTAR) led the gainers, climbing 6.07% to Rs 267.50 per share, while Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (USLB) slipped 7.68% to Rs 2,212.06 per share.

Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) topped turnover with Rs 280.82 million in transactions, followed by Everest Bank Limited (EBL) at Rs 244.49 million and Himalayan Distillery Limited (HDL) at Rs 218.12 million.

Among 13 sectoral indices, only two closed in the negative: the Trading Index fell 0.85% and the Others Index edged down 0.03%. The Banking Sub-Index posted the highest gain, 1.50%.

Market capitalization rose to Rs 4,617.10 billion from Rs 4,595.09 billion the previous day.
