Nepal welcomed 88,680 foreign tourists in August 2025, a 22 percent increase compared to the same month last year, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) report based on preliminary data from the Department of Immigration showed.
But, arrivals remain 6.4 percent below pre-pandemic levels, when 94,749 tourists visited Nepal in August 2019.
India led the visitor count, accounting for 40 percent of arrivals, followed by China (8.5%), the United States (6.8%), Sri Lanka (6.7%), and Bangladesh (4.8%).
With August included, NTB said Nepal has hosted 736,562 tourists so far this year.
NTB CEO Deepak Raj Joshi said the sector, which was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, is gradually recovering. “The addition of Air India Express flights has helped boost arrivals from India,” he said. “We are optimistic that numbers will continue to rise in the coming months.”
