NEPSE Surges 1.91%

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index surged 1.91% (53.01 points) on Wednesday, August 27, to close at 2,819.10, following a 0.17% gain on Tuesday and a 0.77% rise on Monday. Before that, the market had endured three consecutive losing sessions, with declines of 0.34% on Wednesday, 0.33% on Thursday, and 0.65% on Sunday.

Trading activity picked up, with 14.98 million shares changing hands through 72,528 transactions—well above Tuesday’s 9.24 million shares across 45,116 transactions. 

Market turnover surged to Rs 7.86 billion on Wednesday, up from Rs 4.18 billion on Tuesday.

Of the 251 listed companies that traded, 232 advanced while only 19 declined.

All key sub-indices ended higher: the Sensitive Index climbed 1.79%, the Float Index rose 1.88%, and the Sensitive Float Index gained 1.89%. 

Similarly, all 13 sectoral indices finished in positive territory. The Development Bank Index led the rally with a 3.40% jump, followed by Manufacturing & Processing (+2.69%), Trading (+2.68%), Life Insurance (+2.21%), Investment (+2.19%), and Others (+2.14%). The Mutual Fund Index posted the smallest increase at 0.47%.

On the stock front, Bikash Hydropower Company Limited (BHCL) hit the upper circuit limit to become the day’s top gainer, while the 10.25% KBL Debenture 2086 (KBLD86) was the biggest loser, dropping 5.79%.

In terms of turnover, Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) topped the chart, followed by Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) and Green Ventures Limited (GVL).

With the day’s rally, total market capitalization rose to Rs 4,710.85 billion, up from Rs 4,622.26 billion on Tuesday.
