The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index rose 0.17%, or 4.83 points, on Tuesday, August 26, closing at 2,766.09. This follows a 0.77% gain the previous day, after three consecutive sessions of losses, which saw declines of 0.34% on Wednesday, 0.33% on Thursday, and 0.65% on Sunday.
Trading activity softened, with 9.24 million shares changing hands across 45,116 transactions, down from 10.87 million shares in 57,157 transactions the previous day. Market turnover also fell to Rs 4.18 billion from Rs 5.75 billion on Monday and Rs 6.54 billion on Sunday.
Among the 251 companies traded, 101 advanced, 149 declined, and 1 remained unchanged.
All major sub-indices recorded gains: the Sensitive Index climbed 0.10%, the Float Index rose 0.16%, and the Sensitive Float Index added 0.14%. Of the 13 sectoral indices, four ended lower. The Others Index posted the sharpest gain at 1.42%, while Manufacturing and Processing experienced the steepest decline at 0.68%.
Among individual stocks, Bikash Hydropower Company Limited (BHCL) was the day’s top gainer, surging 9.99%, while Kumari Sabal Yojana (KSY) led losses, falling 3.66%.
In terms of turnover, Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) led with Rs 489.578 million, followed by Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) at Rs 217.112 million and NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN) at Rs 194.894 million.
Total market capitalization increased to Rs 4,622.26 billion from Rs 4,614.18 billion a day earlier.
