The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index slipped for the third straight trading day on Sunday, August 24, shedding 18.02 points, or 0.65%, to close at 2,739.95. The benchmark had lost 0.33% last Thursday and 0.34% on Wednesday.
Trading volume remained subdued with 14 million shares changing hands in 58,105 transactions, compared with 16.85 million shares across 56,824 deals on Thursday. However, turnover surged to Rs 6.54 billion from Rs 5.02 billion in the previous session.
Among 249 companies traded, only 41 advanced while 208 declined. All major sub-indices ended in negative territory: the Sensitive Index fell 0.60%, the Float Index 0.69%, and the Sensitive Float Index 0.68%.
The lone gainer among the sectoral indices was the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, edging up 0.15%. Development banks posted the steepest decline, down 1.69%.
Bikash Hydropower Company Limited (BHCL) led the gainers, soaring 9.99%, while Narayani Development Bank Limited (NABBC) slumped 7.29% to become the top loser.
Himalayan Distillery Limited (HDL) topped the turnover chart with transactions totalling Rs 1.75 billion, followed by Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) at Rs 244.77 million and Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) at Rs 233.57 million.
The day’s losses pulled market capitalisation down to Rs 4,578.32 billion from Rs 4,608.43 billion the previous trading day.
