The Department of Tourism has announced plans to make its services more organized and technology-friendly, with a focus on institutional strengthening, procedural simplification, systemic reforms, and technological regulation.
According to its recently published annual report, the department aims to create a business-friendly, investment-friendly, and technology-driven tourism administration to enhance the sector’s overall appeal. The report highlights priorities such as aligning national systems with international practices and promoting the development and expansion of tourism-related activities.
Director General Dr. Narayan Prasad Regmi said initiatives have been taken to make the department’s work simpler, more accessible, and business-oriented. For the first time, the department’s annual report has presented not only achievements and future work plans but also challenges and areas requiring reforms.
Dr. Regmi noted that efforts are being made to overcome procedural complexities while ensuring regular performance. He added that policy reforms remain a key focus. “Our long-term goal is to establish Nepal as an attractive, safe, and scenic international tourism destination through the preservation and promotion of its natural beauty, cultural diversity, biodiversity, and man-made heritage,” he said. “This will help boost economic activities in the tourism sector, generate employment and self-employment opportunities, promote sustainable quality tourism, and ensure the service, comfort, and safety of tourists.”
The department also stated that it is working with additional plans in areas such as tourism infrastructure development, quality hospitality service management, the promotion of adventure and mountain tourism, and the management of mountaineering activities. -- RSS
