NEPSE Surges 0.33%

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index rose 0.33% (9.16) points on Monday, August 18, to close at 2,770.39, after falling 0.97% in the last session.

More than 15.22 million shares changed hands in 67,959 transactions, generating turnover of Rs 6.17 billion, down from Rs 7.73 billion on Sunday.

Of the 249 listed companies traded, 175 advanced while 74 declined.

All major indices finished higher. The Sensitive Index, which tracks A-class companies, added 0.35%; the Float Index, representing publicly tradable shares, rose 0.34%; and the Sensitive Float Index gained 0.39%.

Out of 13 sectoral indices, only the Others and Mutual Fund indices ended in negative territory, down 0.58% and 0.49% respectively. The Trading Index led the gainers with a 1.29% rise, followed by Hydropower, up 0.97%, and Manufacturing and Processing, up 0.49%.

Union Hydropower Ltd (UNHPL) was the day’s top gainer, climbing 6.10% to Rs 408.35 per share, while Sampada Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd (SMPDA) was the top loser, falling 4.81% to Rs 942.21.

Nepal Reinsurance Co Ltd (NRIC) posted the highest turnover at Rs 217.52 million, followed by Butwal Power Co Ltd (BPCL) at Rs 209.59 million and NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd (NRN) at Rs 187.54 million.

The market’s total capitalisation rose to Rs 4,626.26 billion from Rs 4,610.94 billion a day earlier.
