The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has uncovered that the tax details of Bhatbhateni Supermarket were manipulated by a private audit firm.
In a press release issued on Friday, the CIB stated that two employees of Bihadi Business Management, a Chitwan-based audit firm handling Bhatbhateni’s accounts, altered the company’s revenue records.
Santosh Parajuli, 28, and Parin Pandey, 22, of Chitwan Metropolitan City-11, have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to the police, the accused accessed the system of the Inland Revenue Department without authorization and tampered with the tax details. They reportedly used the login credentials of an unrelated company to make the changes.
CIB spokesperson SP Shyam Kumar Shahi explained, “Taxpayers often hire consultants to submit their details, providing them with a username and password. In this case, the consultant logged into another taxpayer’s account and manipulated the tax details of an unrelated entity.”
The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the fraud and its implications.
