Germany has agreed to provide €100,000 (approximately Rs 14.2 million) in grant to support the reconstruction of a drinking water project in Dhulikhel Municipality, Kavre, which was severely damaged by floods and landslides in late September 2024.

In mid-October, Dhulikhel Municipality requested assistance from the German Ambassador to Nepal, Dr. Thomas Prinz, to help rebuild the damaged infrastructure.

A memorandum of understanding for the financial aid has been signed by Mayor Ashok Byanju on behalf of the municipality and Tirtha Sinha representing the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), according to RSS, the state-owned news agency.

The German Embassy in Nepal will disburse the grant through GIZ to the Dhulikhel Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumers’ Committee in the coming days, as confirmed by Mayor Byanju.

While the committee has completed partial repairs, residents of wards 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 are still grappling with limited access to drinking water.

Committee Chairman Krishna Bhusan Shrestha reported that Rs 1.97 million has already been spent on repair and maintenance. However, a complete reconstruction of the three-decade-old project is estimated to require Rs 35 million.
