The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index dropped by 24.97 points on Wednesday, December 4, closing at 2,750.87 points, following a gain of 17.80 points the previous day.
Earlier in the week, the index had fallen by 9.99 points on Sunday, before recovering with a 19.97-point increase on Monday.
Last week, the index had declined by 68.35 points, reversing a gain of 68.60 points the week before.
Despite the drop in the index, trading activity increased, with the daily turnover rising to over Rs 9.13 billion from Rs 8.52 billion the previous day.
A total of over 20 million shares were traded across 96,677 transactions.
The Sensitive, Float, and Sensitive Float indices all closed in the red, with declines of 0.46 percent, 0.31 percent, and 0.37 percent, respectively.
Khanikhola Hydropower Co. Ltd. (KKHC) was the top gainer of the day, with its share price rising by 9.99 percent. Joshi Hydropower Development Company Ltd. (JOSHI) and River Falls Power Limited (RFPL) followed closely, gaining 9.98 percent and 9.90 percent, respectively.
On the other hand, Support Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (SMB) and Life Insurance Corporation (Nepal) Limited (LICN) were the top losers, with their share prices hitting the lowest circuit limit.
Joshi Hydropower Development Company Ltd. (JOSHI) led the turnover list, followed by NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN) and Ankhu Khola Jalvidhyut Company Ltd. (AKJCL).
Of the 13 NEPSE sub-indices, only three closed in the green. The Hydropower Index showed the highest gain of 0.59 percent, while the Trading Index recorded the largest drop of 8.72 percent.
