NEPSE Remains in Green Following Appointment of SEBON’s Chair

Gaining 33.41 points, the index crossed 2,700-mark on Tuesday, November 26

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index surged 33.41 points on Tuesday, November 26, to close at 2,716.66 points. It had gained 15.83 points the previous day after dropping 13.03 points on Sunday.

Last week, the index dropped by 68.35 points, reversing the previous week's gain of 68.60 points.

The recent gains follow the renewed confidence among investors following the appointment of Santosh Narayan Shrestha as the chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), the country’s capital market regulator, analysts say.

Shrestha has been appointed to the position which had remained vacant for nearly a year.

Trading activity improved on the third trading day of the week, with the daily turnover totaling around Rs 7.44 billion, compared to around Rs 6.34 billion the previous day. Over 14 million shares were traded through 75,572 transactions during Tuesday's session.

The Sensitive, Float, and Sensitive Float indices all closed in the green, increasing by 0.95 percent, 1.28 percent, and 0.99 percent, respectively.

Three companies—Support Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (SMB), United IDI Mardi RB Hydropower Limited (UMRH), and Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower Limited (KBSH)—were the top gainers of the day, hitting the upper circuit limit.

Mithila LaghuBitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (MLBBL) and Upper Hewakhola Hydropower Company Limited (UHEWA) followed, gaining 9.62 percent and 9.80 percent, respectively.

On the contrary, Three Star Hydropower Limited (TSHL) became the biggest loser, with its share price hitting the lower circuit limit.

In terms of turnover, Nepal Finance Ltd. (NFS) topped the list, followed by Ngadi Group Power Ltd. (NGPL) and NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN).

 All 13 NEPSE sub-indices closed in the green, with the HydroPower Index posting the largest gain of 1.97 percent.
