The government has launched high-speed internet service through Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology and NT Fiber in Simkot, Humla district. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, virtually inaugurated the service during a program organized by the ministry on Friday.

With this launch, all 77 districts in Nepal now have access to internet service via FTTH. Previously, Humla was the only district in the remote and underserved Karnali Province without FTTH access.

During the event, Minister Gurung expressed optimism that the launch of FTTH would support the government's objective of digitalizing the country. "The Ministry's goal of providing high-speed internet in Humla has been achieved," he said, expressing satisfaction. He added that the ministry had been working to establish reliable communication across the country. Minister Gurung also noted that communication services had previously faced disruptions due to a lack of sustainable infrastructure.

Ministry Secretary Radhika Aryal echoed the Minister's sentiments, highlighting that bringing high-speed internet to this remote district is a positive step towards digital development.

Nepal Telecom's Managing Director, Sangita Pahadi Aryal, emphasized that reaching high-speed internet in Humla marks a significant milestone for the government, given the district's challenging geography.

During a virtual presentation, Nepal Telecom's Director at Karnali Province Directorate, Umesh Shah, and Chief of Province Office, Sushma Gautam, provided updates on the status of internet services and progress in Humla. They shared that the people of Humla have welcomed the new technological service with enthusiasm. -- RSS
