The Rotary Club of Tripureshwor concluded its 50th and final weekly meeting of the Rotary Year 2024–25 on Saturday, June 28. Addressing the gathering, President Lata Sharma Baral described her term as both memorable and fulfilling.
“I had always aspired to lead this institution, but I didn’t expect it to happen so soon,” she said. “There were others more senior and capable than me, yet I was nominated. Despite the challenges, the encouragement from my seniors, support from colleagues, and motivation from my family gave me the courage to take on the role.”
Baral said her experience reaffirmed that proper preparation makes implementation easier and leads to better results. Building on past plans, she introduced new initiatives during her tenure. Among them was an annual “table calendar,” which she said proved highly effective. “By internalising and following the calendar throughout the year, we were able to complete service projects and regular activities more efficiently,” she noted, urging future leadership to adopt the same approach.
Reflecting on her Rotary journey, she said: “Being involved in Rotary requires giving time, money, and sometimes even peace of mind—but the chance to meet new people at every event is invaluable.” Sharing personal experiences, she added, “At old-age homes, I saw blessings in the eyes of the elderly. At schools, I received pure love from children. At health camps, the joy and gratitude of people after seeing a doctor in their lives for the first time left a lasting impression.”
District Governor Elect 2025/26 at Rotary International, Bishnu Bahadur Karki, attended the meeting, where President Baral honoured those who supported her throughout her term.
Incoming President Bharat Kumar Lakai (2025/26) said he would continue the positive work of his predecessor. He emphasised Rotary’s leadership in social service and expressed his commitment to further strengthening the club’s programmes.
The Rotary Club of Tripureshwor has been actively engaged in various sectors, including polio eradication, healthcare, safe drinking water, environmental protection, and education. Founded in the United States in 1905, Rotary expanded to Nepal in 1958. Today, around 6,000 individuals are affiliated with Rotary clubs across the country.
