The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index dipped marginally by 1.07 points, or 0.04 percent, on Wednesday, June 18, closing at 2,653.68, extending losses from the previous session.
The benchmark index had shed 0.14 percent on Tuesday after edging up 0.01 percent on Sunday and 0.1 percent on Monday.
Despite the marginal decline, daily turnover improved on Wednesday, reaching Rs 9.08 billion, up from Rs 7.65 billion the previous session. Monday’s turnover had surged to Rs 13.18 billion—the highest in three months. The last time turnover exceeded this level was on March 3, when it hit Rs 13.73 billion. On Sunday, turnover stood at Rs 11.44 billion.
A total of 23.44 million shares changed hands through 78,013 transactions on Wednesday, compared to 16.4 million shares and 70,077 transactions the day before.
Of the 248 traded companies, 88 posted gains while 159 declined. One company’s stock remained unchanged.
Among the sub-indices, the Sensitive Index was nearly flat, shedding just 0.01 points. The Float Index dropped by 0.06 percent, while the Sensitive Float Index slipped 0.04 percent.
Pure Energy Limited (PURE) led the gainers, hitting the upper circuit at Rs 1,207.20 per share. On the other hand, Corporate Development Bank Limited (CORBL) hit the lower circuit, falling to Rs 2,409.90 per share.
Sanima Mai Hydropower Limited (SHPC) recorded the highest turnover of the day at Rs 717.8 million, followed by Singati Hydro Energy Limited (SHEL) at Rs 618.09 million and Butwal Power Company Limited (BPCL) at Rs 453.2 million.
Only five of the 13 sectoral indices ended in the green. The Hydropower Index saw the largest gain, climbing 0.74 percent, while the Development Bank Index posted the steepest loss, declining 1.25 percent.
NEPSE’s total market capitalization stood at Rs 4.421 trillion at the close of trading.
