The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) gained for the seventh straight trading day on Wednesday, July 23, adding 5.17 points or 0.17% to close at 2,978.88.
This follows a sharp surge of 80.97 points on Tuesday, the biggest single-day gain since August 1, 2024, when the index had jumped 114.70 points, or 4.57%.
The ongoing rally is mainly driven by improved investor confidence after the monetary policy for fiscal year 2025/26 was announced on July 11. The new fiscal year began on July 17.
In the last three sessions of last week, NEPSE rose by 1.26%, 1.25%, and 2.71%, respectively. This week, the index added 0.01% on Sunday, 0.75% on Monday, and 2.79% on Tuesday.
Despite Wednesday’s continued index gain, daily turnover slipped to Rs 19.57 billion, down from Rs 20.08 billion on Tuesday, though still above Monday’s Rs 16.33 billion. Turnover had reached an 11-month high of Rs 21.46 billion on Sunday.
Trading activity saw over 44.86 million shares exchanged through 170,318 transactions, compared to 43.58 million shares via 177,101 trades the previous day.
Of the 250 listed companies that were traded, 98 advanced while 152 declined.
Among the three major indices, only the Float Index posted a gain, inching up 0.03%. The Sensitive Index and Sensitive Float Index slipped by 0.03% and 0.12%, respectively.
Of the 13 sectoral indices, 6 ended in negative territory. The Hotels and Tourism Index saw the largest drop, falling 1.10%, while the Finance Index led the gainers with a rise of 3.23%.
Trade Tower Limited (TTL) and Sanvi Energy Limited (SANVI) were the day’s top performers, both jumping 9.99%. TTL closed at Rs 589.30 per share, while SANVI finished at Rs 525.40. Green Ventures Limited (GVL) also posted strong gains, rising 9.40% to Rs 541.10.
On the downside, Bhugol Energy Development Company Limited (BEDC) was the day’s top loser, declining 5.32% to close at Rs 762.37 per share.
Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) led the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 781.02 million. It was followed by Shivam Cements Ltd (SHIVM) at Rs 752.95 million, and Nepal Infrastructure Bank Limited (NIFRA) at Rs 623.30 million.
Total market capitalisation rose to Rs 4,970.76 billion on Wednesday, up from Rs 4,962.12 billion on Tuesday and Rs 4,826.99 billion on Monday.
