Nepal secured a dominant 108-run victory over Kuwait in their second match of the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier on Thursday, November 7, at the Sevens Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This win marked Nepal’s second consecutive victory in the tournament, following their 67-run triumph over Thailand on Wednesday. Kuwait, on the other hand, suffered their second consecutive defeat after losing by 106 runs to the UAE the previous day.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Nepal posted a total of 130 runs in 20 overs, losing 8 wickets.
Captain Puja Mahato led the charge with an impressive 34 runs off 38 balls, including four boundaries.
Sana Praveen added 25 runs from 18 balls, hitting five boundaries, while Jyotsnika Marasini contributed 23 runs off 18 balls with one boundary.
While Nepal benefited from 16 extras, Rachana Kumari Sharma and Riya Sharma were dismissed for ducks.
Kuwait, in response, was bowled out for just 22 runs in 13 overs.
None of the Kuwaiti batters reached double figures, except for captain Zeefa Jilani who made 12 runs off 17 balls with two boundaries.
Nepal’s Rachana Kumari Chaudhary and Seema KC each claimed two wickets, while captain Puja Mahato, Krishma Gurung, and Manisha Kumari Upadhyay dismissed one batter each.
Host UAE, Nepal, Kuwait, and Thailand are competing in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier.
Nepal will play next against the UAE on Saturday, November 9.
The winner of this qualifier will secure a place in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, set to be held in Malaysia in 2025.
