The Labour Ministry of Nepal has fixed the minimum wage requirement for Nepali job aspirants in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), setting a base monthly salary of 1,000 Dirhams (approximately Rs 38,000).
According to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, the decision was made in consultation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Law, and based on feedback from the Nepali Embassy in the UAE.
Labour Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari said the new wage standard aims to ensure fair pay for Nepali migrant workers.
“Previously, Nepali workers were paid between 800 and 1,200 Dirhams. Now, the minimum wage has been fixed at 1,000 Dirhams,” he said.
The ministry has made it clear that demand letters from UAE employers failing to meet the new wage criteria will no longer be authenticated. Employers who do not guarantee the minimum wage will not be eligible to recruit Nepali workers.
Minister Bhandari expressed confidence that the move would protect the rights and welfare of Nepali workers abroad. -- RSS
