December 10: The government has extended the renewal period of vehicles’ blue book by three months.
A recent cabinet meeting took a decision to this effect. In addition to blue book renewal, the government has also extended the deadline for renewal of driving license as well as vehicles’ fitness test and route permit.
Unveiling the decisions taken by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, government’s spokesperson Parbat Gurung confirmed that the deadline for renewal of blue book has been extended by three months.
The government had set the deadline of mid-September for payment of fines as well as renewal of blue books and route permits due to the coronavirus pandemic. As the restrictions were not fully lifted even after mid-September, the government decided to further extend the deadline. The decision to extend the deadline was also taken considering the festive season and various other reasons that hampered the smooth functioning of government offices. The government has announced that it will not be charging any fine or late fee during this period. The grace period will remain effective till mid-December.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has already directed the Department of Transport Management to implement the decision taken by the Council of Ministers.
