The government has allocated the largest share of the national budget for the Fiscal Year 2025/26 to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Presenting the annual budget at a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel announced an allocation of Rs 211 billion for the education sector.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management received the second-highest allocation with Rs 152 billion, reflecting the government's continued emphasis on infrastructure development. Likewise, the Ministry of Urban Development has been allocated Rs 118 billion to support urban infrastructure and planning initiatives.
In the health sector, the government has earmarked Rs 95.81 billion for the Ministry of Health and Population to improve healthcare services and expand access. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has been allotted Rs 86.01 billion to support energy production and water resource management.
Other major allocations include Rs 33.89 billion for the Ministry of Water Supply, aimed at enhancing drinking water and sanitation facilities, and Rs 18.61 billion for the Ministry of Forests and Environment to support environmental conservation and climate resilience efforts.
To promote tourism and cultural heritage, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has been allocated Rs 13.85 billion. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology will receive Rs 7.72 billion, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports has been allotted Rs 6.08 billion.
The Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens received an allocation of Rs 2.08 billion, reflecting a more modest budget for social inclusion programs. Finance Minister Paudel stated that the budget focuses on strengthening public services, supporting economic recovery, and accelerating development in key priority areas.
