Landslides and floods have obstructed major highways in at least six locations across the country, severely affecting traffic flow, police said on Wednesday.
According to the Police Headquarters, traffic is currently moving in only one direction on four other road sections, while efforts are underway to fully reopen the affected routes.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Binod Ghimire, said police teams are working to clear debris and restore two-way traffic where possible. “We are trying to resume traffic along the obstructed roads and restore two-way movement on partially open sections,” he added.
The Araniko Highway remains blocked at three points—Kodari, Larcha, and Koplang—within Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality due to landslides.
In Nawalparasi Bardaghat Susta East, flooding has brought the Mahendra Highway to a standstill at Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality-1. A long queue of vehicles has formed in the area, stranding many passengers.
In Myagdi district, a landslide has blocked the Beni–Jomsom road near Rupse, Annapurna Rural Municipality-3. Meanwhile, the Bheri Corridor is fully obstructed at Chhalghat, Tripurasundari Municipality-1 in Dolpa district, also due to flooding.
Police said preparations are underway to clear all affected sections and resume normal traffic.
One-way traffic resumes on several key roads
Authorities have managed to restore one-way traffic on several roadways. The Ravi–Ranke–Bhedetar road in Dhankuta, is now open for one-way movement.
Similarly, the BP Highway in Kavre, which was blocked by flooding in Banjhokhet, Dhulikhel Municipality-11, is now operating one-way.
One-way traffic has also resumed on the Narayanghat–Muglin road after clearing debris caused by landslides at Paanch Tuin Khola and Namsi Bridge in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality, Chitwan.
In Gulmi, the Kaligandaki Corridor is now open for one-way travel after a landslide at Barlaba, Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-6 was partially cleared.
The Jumla–Mugu road, which was blocked by a landslide at Chulel, Sinja Rural Municipality-2 in Jumla district, has also reopened for one-way traffic. -- RSS
