The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast higher-than-average rainfall across most parts of Nepal during the upcoming monsoon season, which is expected to span from June 1 to September 30.
According to the department, recent analyses of weather patterns indicate that rainfall this monsoon is likely to be 35 to 65 percent above average , varying by province. Alongside the increased precipitation, both maximum and minimum temperatures are also expected to rise significantly.
“The maximum temperature is projected to increase by 35 to 65 percent above average, while the minimum temperature may rise by 35 to 55 percent,” said Kamal Ram Joshi, Director at DHM.
In Nepal, the monsoon typically begins around June 13 and ends by October 2. However, last year, the monsoon entered from eastern Nepal on June 10 — three days earlier than expected — and took six additional days to fully withdraw from the country. -- RSS
